12a Charterhouse Square

Situated around the perimeter of Charterhouse Square this commercial 18th century charterhouse owned property was in need of a full external refurbishment. 


Minerva Building Restoration Ltd were instructed to act as principal contractor to undertake this project. The scope of works entailed procuring highways licences from the local authorities which permitted full scaffolding to be provided to all 3no elevations. Along with the replacement of traditional natural welsh slates lead flashings/details were renewed. The original sash windows were completely overhauled and fully redecorated. 


The external brick elevations were cleaned using a sympathetic stem cleaning system (Doff) revealing many areas of defective pointing. 
 

These areas were chased out to allow replacement lime based pointing to be applied. 

 

Charterhouse

With a full and rich history including being a burial ground for plague victims/a monastery along with being a mansion house for wealthy nobleman (inc royalty) Charterhouse has been located on the square since 1371. Minerva Building Restoration Ltd were instructed to upgrade many of the original timber doors throughout the building to comply with current fire regulation requirements. lntumescent fire strips, perko chain fire rated door closers along with fire rated paint coatings (Envirograf) were installed and applied.
